Madonna made only a handful of TV appearances in 1988, but surprisingly one of these was on Irish TV!
March 1988 and rehearsals had already started for 'Speed-The-Plow', the David Mamet Broadway play which would star Madonna later that year. Other than this, things were the quietest they had ever been for Madonna fans since the start of her music career.
A typical Friday evening with nothing on the telly, I tuned into the official Irish Music Awards broadcast live from Dublin. Still think it's a miracle I put a tape in the recorder, but I did and as the award for "Best International Female" arrived I thought it only right I start recording (even if only to have another clip of a Madonna video on tape)!
Boy was I gobsmacked when the presenter announced that "Madonna has sent us this message"! And here it is from my original recording, Madonna accepting her Irish Award, and amongst other things, promising that she would come to Ireland on her next tour...
