1991: "Glitter & Be Giving" amfAR event

Tuesday December 10th 1991 saw a very special event in Los Angeles organised by amfAR - the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

"Glitter & Be Giving" was a fundraising night to pay tribute to Madonna for her relentless support of the charity and AIDS-awareness work in general, and the evening was attended by many friends at the time including Alek Keshishian, Sandra Bernhard and Rosie O'Donnell.

Rumours had been circulating that Madonna herself was HIV positive and in her speech accepting the amfAR award from Luke Perry, she took the opportunity to deny this.

Here's a couple of reports - one from Channel 4 UK late night show "The Word", which also includes a studio discussion about Madonna with Lisa Stansfield - the other a great MTV-News piece on the event, containing lots of footage and interview clips.
