1997: UK Fans Interviewed!

Over the years the media have regularly sought Madonna fans to talk about their love for the biggest female star in the world. As a result, some fans have ended up becoming well-known in their own right and a handful have regularly appeared on TV and in magazines and newspapers.

In 1997, MTV-UK brought together a bunch of such fans in London to make a one-off special "All About Madonna". Fans Michelle, Dave, Marcus, Amanda, Jamie and Pete discussed their passion for Madonna, showed their collections of memorabilia and described in some cases what happened when they met her.

1992: "Shadows & Fog" Movie Promotion

Through the 90s, Madonna showed up in more movies than most people care to remember. As well as playing the lead in a number which became very well known, she also played minor roles in quite a few films by some famous directors.

One of these was Woody Allen's "Shadows And Fog". Shot in 1991, Madonna played Marie, a tightrope artist alongside an all-star cast which included Mia Farrow, John Malkovich, John Cusack, Jodie Foster and Kathy Bates!

The film had a limited US opening in December 1991 followed by a nationwide rollout in March 1992. It received very little promotion on TV, however here is a rarely seen piece from "CNN Showbiz Today" in March 1992 - an interview with John Cusack about his role in the movie.

1992: Madonna Teases "Queen's English"

Fans had a long wait for new Madonna music after "Rescue Me" and "Justify My Love" came in late 1990. Aside from the "Rescue Me" remixes at the start of 1991, things went completely quiet on the music front right through that year and well into 1992.

There was a bit of excitement then when news arrived in March 1992 of a "new Madonna track"! Receiving its world premiere at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Milan, "Queen's English" was part of a soundtrack put together by Madonna for the catwalk show of the Italian designers.

MTV-News in Europe heralded a "New Madonna Single", which although featured Madonna on accompanying vocals, was actually a track by José Gutierrez & Luis Camacho, the Blond Ambition tour dancers who had choreographed Madonna's "Vogue" video, appeared alongside her in the 1990 Rock The Vote TV spot and featured heavily in promotion for the "Truth or Dare" movie in 1991.

While we got to hear snippets of this exciting new piece of Madonna music via TV reports of the fashion show, a wait of well over a year was in order for people to get their hands on the full thing! The duo ended up getting signed to Sire Records who in the 2nd half of 1993 included "Queen's English" on a compilation album entitled "New Faces" (which also featured tracks from a variety of its newly signed acts).

The song became a USA single shortly after, and came with a set of remixes by Junior Vasquez - who also produced the original track (Junior had previously helped out on remixes of Madonna songs alongside Shep Pettibone and in later years himself became a regular remixer of her singles).

Here's the MTV-News item on the song's fashion show premiere, followed by a small piece from Canada's "Fashion TV" show.

1992: Portland Press Conference

April 1992 saw Madonna head to Portland, Oregan to begin a month's filming of the movie "Body of Evidence". Billed as an erotic thriller, news that Madonna was working on the film came just after nude pictures appeared of her shooting the "Sex" book in Miami.

As filming was about to start, the director Uli Edel and co-star Willem Dafoe joined Madonna at a press conference in Portland on Sunday April 5th 1992 and here's a look at how both CNN and MTV reported the event.

1987: What's That Video?

Earlier this week, Madonna-TV's favourite website - the insanely addictive Pud Whacker's Madonna Scrapbook showed us (via Amen-Madonna Tumblr) some rare never-before-seen shots of Madonna from that most awesome of years in her career, 1987.

Two of the photos (seen above) are video stills, which have left us at Madonna-TV very very intrigued and a little excited. The question of the moment is - where are these video stills from and where's the video itself?!

While these shots seem to show Madonna at some point during the 1987 Who's That Girl World Tour, very little else can be deducted!

Madonna's hair-length suggests this is from the later stages of the tour in Europe and the video looks like it was taken at the same time as this candid photo of Madonna with tour drummer Jonathan Moffet, which itself only surfaced last year.

What was happening this day? Why were photos and video being taken and can anyone out there help fill in the missing details about this? Please contact us at Madonna-TV if you know more!!!

And on the same subject - we're still looking for someone who might have the full video of the FINAL CONCERT of the Who's That Girl tour. This pro-shot video was used throughout the official 1988 video release of the tour "Ciao Italia" (intercut with footage from Turin and Tokyo) and parts have also been used since then in Warner Music videos in 1988 and 1989.

GET IN TOUCH - IN COMPLETE CONFIDENCE - IF YOU CAN HELP!! :-)
