Madonna controversy time again in December 1990 - reaching fever pitch that month, thanks to her most controversial of music videos yet and her first to be banned by America's MTV network.

"Justify My Love" caused a worldwide storm at the end of 1990 in a way which would be almost impossible today. Here's "Entertainment Tonight" reporting on the fuss early on, along with a great rare interview with photography legend Herb Ritts.

Herb photographed Madonna for the "True Blue", "Who's That Girl" and "Like a Prayer" album covers, not to mention most of her late 80s single covers and countless magazine spreads. He was also a close personal friend of Madonna.

He talks from his home in Malibu here about working with Madonna and touches on the subject of her then boyfriend Tony Ward.

1990: Dressing Room Message to German TV!

This was probably the world's first look at Blond Ambition Madonna. January 1990 during a German TV show which looked back at the 1980s, Madonna sent a personal message to her German fans, taped in her dressing room accompanied by future tour dancer Oliver Crumes and wearing a top similar to one which eventually became a costume on the Blond Ambition tour.

Notice her hairstyle & makeup in the clip - was this the day she was photographed by Helmut Newton for the April 1990 issue of Vanity Fair magazine?
